The Bhakta Niwas Packing List: Everything, Nothing More
Overpacking is the most common mistake devotees make for Shegaon — and the second is forgetting the one document that check-in requires. This checklist resolves both. Bhakta Niwas rooms provide bedding, attached bathrooms with hot water and basic furnishings (see the facilities guide), so the honest packing list is short.
Documents — The Non-Negotiables
- Photo ID for every adult (Aadhaar, driving licence, or passport) — required at check-in
- Your booking reference — screenshot or note, on paper as well as phone
- Train/road tickets — printed e-tickets are still the most reliable in crowded stations
- A small amount of cash in ₹100/₹500 notes — the town runs on cash (see the NRI/visitor guide if arriving from abroad)
Clothing — By Season
All seasons:
- Comfortable, modest clothing for the temple (covered shoulders/knees — see the dress code guide)
- Footwear that slips off easily — no lace-ups, no boots
- One change more than your day count; travel days misbehave
- Sleepwear
November–February (see the winter guide):
- A genuine warm layer — jacket or heavy shawl for pre-dawn kakad aarti
- A light mid-layer for evenings
- Woollen cap for elders and children
April–June:
- Light cottons only
- Head cover — cap/scarf/umbrella for midday movement
- Full water bottle carried at all times
July–September:
- Compact umbrella or light raincoat
- Footwear with grip; a spare pair if one gets soaked
- Quick-dry clothing
For Darshan
- Small bag for offerings and prasad (flowers/coconut available at the temple)
- A bag that closes fully — zips, not open totes — for shoes and belongings in queue areas
- For elders: walking stick if used, and a small folding stool if queue waits are expected on festival days
Health and Personal Kit
- Prescription medicines for the full trip + 2 extra days, in original packaging, with a written list
- Basic first aid: paracetamol, ORS sachets, band-aids, antacid, antiseptic
- Lip balm and moisturiser (winter dryness is real)
- Sunscreen (summer)
- Soap, toothbrush, towel (rooms provide basics; your own is always better)
- Tissues/toilet paper — carry it; temple-town facilities vary
For Children (If Travelling With Kids)
- Familiar snacks — a known biscuit beats a novel famine
- One small toy/book for queue waits
- ID card or wristband with your mobile number (see the family guide)
Electronics
- Phone + charger + a power bank (long queue hours kill batteries; sockets may not be where you need them)
- Headphones for family calls home after darshan
What NOT to Bring
- Large suitcases — you will carry whatever you bring through station crowds and temple approaches; a backpack and a small duffel per family is the right size
- Valuable jewellery — a temple town is not the place for it
- Drone cameras — restricted airspace and crowded complex; leave it home
- Alcohol and non-vegetarian food items — against the ethos and rules of the Sansthan environment
- Huge quantities of offerings — everything is available there; carry devotion, not cargo
The Final Check Before You Leave Home
ID for every adult ✓ Booking reference ✓ Medicines ✓ Season layer ✓ Slip-off footwear ✓ Cash in small notes ✓ Phone + power bank ✓ — everything else is available in Shegaon, and lighter bags make happier pilgrims.
